Cyto-histologic correlations in cases of bronchial cell atypias

Abstract

|
An attempt to interpret morphologically both sputum smears and histological materials for cellular atypias of 27 cases was made. The atypias, especially malignant atypias, found on the smears could be matched with those found on the tissue sections, and the smear atypias would have a clear significance related to the histological patterns. Among 27 cases the lung carcinomas were 20 cases and the epidermoid carcinomas were the major, all of which were of advanced invasive lesions and had a high relation with heavy smoking history for long years. The lung carcinomas were primarily diagnosed by cytology in the accuracy of 80%.
